Zakat

Zakat
Zakat is a compulsory giving of alms for the comfort of those in need and is the third pillar of Islam.
The literal translation of the phrase Zakat is “that which purifies.” So it may be stated that simply because the Shahada purifies one’s aim and prayer purifies the soul, fasting purifies the body and pilgrimage purifies one’s life-style, the act of giving Zakat purifies one’s worldly possessions.
To assist fulfil one’s obligations at some point of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Al-Madinah Masjid serves the collection of Zakat al Fitr. Based on teachings of Islam, Al-Madinah Masjid provides financial assistance to those most in need through the distribution of Zakat fund collection.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Every Muslim has to give in charity.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Prophet! If someone has nothing to give, what will he do?” He said, “He should work with his hands and benefit himself and also give in charity (from what he earns).” The people further asked, “If he cannot find even that?” He replied, “He should help the needy who appeal for help.” Then the people asked, “If he cannot do that?” He replied, “Then he should perform good deeds and keep away from evil deeds and this will be regarded as charitable deeds.”
