Sadaqah is the voluntary giving of alms for the relief of those in need and is described as an act of giving for the sake of giving without seeking anything in return and with the pure intention of pleasing Allah (swt).

The literal translation of the word Sadaqah is “righteousness” which stems from the arabic root word sidq, meaning sincerity. According to the teaching of Islam, the act of Sadaqah does not necessarily need to be in the form of material goods, it can be a kind action, word or gesture. Even a smile is an act of charity.

Based on teachings of Islam, Al-Madinah Masjid provides financial assistance to those most in need through the distribution of Sadaqah collection.

Islam places a great emphasis and reward on giving charity in secret. It preserves the dignity of those who receive the charity, and also prevents the giver from being boastful or seeking praise.

Giving charity in secret is best when giving charity that is voluntary (Sadaqah). Regarding voluntary charity, Allah (swt) says in the second chapter of the Quran:

If you disclose your Sadaqaat (almsgiving), it is well; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, that is better for you.
